On Monday, I’m starting a new chapter in my professional life.
I’m joining the team at CustomMade, an online marketplace where professional craftspeople connect with those looking to have quality, one-of-a-kind products made. The nice lady in the video below explains how it works.
It’s a really cool job with a really cool company and I can’t wait to get started.
CustomMade has created this amazing community of “Makers” — jewelers, carpenters, artists, metalworkers, leatherworkers, and more — all screened and vetted by the company. My primary responsibility will be to work with that community, ensuring they have the tools and information they need to succeed on CustomMade. Creating an online meeting place where the company can connect with Makers, and Makers can learn from each other, is a key goal.
This is a big change for me. I’ve been with Delphi Forums on and off for a long time. It was a great run. I learned a lot about enthusiast communities and how people interact online (among other things). I’ll still be doing online community work, but it’s a different kind of community. So while I like to think I bring some experience and knowledge to the company, I have a whole lot to learn.
